Company history

Bred is a small village just outside Vissenbjerg, a town who is situated appx. 20 km.'s outside Odense, the fourth-largest city in Denmark.

Bred Møbelfabrik A/S was founded in 1923 by Master Cabinetmaker Peter Ejnar Nielsen, the grandfather of the present owner. In 1955 the factory was turned over to Master Cabinetmaker Poul Richard Nielsen; son of Peter Ejnar Nielsen, who in 1956 doubled the production space at the factory.

In the same year - 1955, the other son of Peter Ejnar Nielsen, Master Cabinetmaker Svend Laurits Nielsen, on the same land register in Bred, build 3600 sq. feet production facilities, and started his own furniture production.

Both sons of Poul Richard Nielsen, Henning Nielsen and Kurt Nielsen served their apprenticeship as carpenters, and in 1986 Svend Laurits Nielsen turned over his factory to Master Cabinetmaker Henning Nielsen.

In 1988 Kurt Nielsen and his father entered into partnership, and after his fathers death in 1990, Master Cabinetmaker Kurt Nielsen took over the complete leadership of the factory.

In 1994 the produkction again required more space, and another 2000 sq. feet was added to the factory. In 1996 Henning Nielsen, decided to move to completely new production facilities, and Kurt Nielsen therefore bought the building build by his uncle in 1955.

1996 as CNC-machinery became a necessity, another 2000 sq. feet was added, and hereby the production area reached a total of 18000 sq. feet.

Throughout the years Bred Møbelfabrik A/S, specializing in table tops, mainly has been suppliers to the furniture industry in Denmark, but after the bankruptcy of a mojor customer in 2004, Kurt Nielsen decided to bring his own collection on the market.

August 1. 2004 he therefore founded Bred Furniture ApS as a sales company for Bred Møbelfabrik A/S, and as an agency, for HN Møbler in Ejby.

After one year in the market we are happy to note that the concept of tailormade tables has been well accepted by our customers. Not only on our main markets in Germany and Denmark, but in Japan and the USA as well, and we therefore have positive expectations in the future.
